|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Andrew Jubal Smith, Apalachicola Riverkeeper |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   The Apalachicola Riverkeeper recommends that the Office of Greenways and Trails update its Opportunity Map to include the entire 107 miles of the Apalachicola River in Florida and its tributary and distributary system. The Apalachicola River offers world class paddling, camping and hiking opportunities with historical, cultural, and natural sites. The River connects such sites as Woodruff Dam, US Army Corps of Engineers park, Angus Gholson Park in Chattahoochee, Pioneer Settlement and the biking and hiking trail in Blountstown, Torreya State Park, The Nature Conservancy?s Bluffs and Ravines Preserve, Gaskin Park in Wewahitchka, Apalachicola National Forest, Fort Gadsden State Park, Apalachicola Wildlife and Environmental Area, Tate?s Hell State Forest, Apalachicola's Veteran?s Park, Battery Park, Working Waterfront, Apalachicola Maritime Museum, and Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve Visitor Center. The River also provides access to Dead Lakes State Park and the Chipola River and St. George Island State Park, Dog Island TNC Preserve, Franklin County's Millender and Indian Creek Parks and NWFWMD lands.
The Apalachicola Riverkeeper is working with RiverWay South, the chambers of commerce throughout the Apalachicola basin, Apalachicola Maritime Museum and others to develop nature-based recreation within the River corridor. The communties along the River support these opportunities which will be enhanced by acquisition through the Greenway and Trails system. |

|   Corbett to Loxahatchee |   Multi-Use |   Bret Baronak, Palm Beach MPO |   Retain |   04-29-2008 |   Corridor needs to be shifted slightly to the SW to incorporate the L-8 Canal.
The name should be changed to Everglades Rim Trail Corridor.
The reason for the name change is due to plans to join this corridor to the eastern side of the Loxahatchee NWR loop in Palm Beach County and connect to the Broward Conservation Levee trail system which then continues into Miami-Dade County to Everglades National Park. This route is on the edge of the Everglades. |

|   East Tallahassee to Gulf |   Multi-Use |   Brian Burket, FL Dept of Env. Protection |   Upload |   04-24-2008 |   I would like to nominate a multi-use trail corridor for the Opportunity Map that would link various conservation lands from Tom Brown Park on the east side of Tallahassee to the Gulf of Mexico. The attached map shows most of this area (once you reach the Aucilla WMA, there is existing connectivity to the St.Marks NWR and Gulf). It appears that only one hole remains to make this connection a possibility and it is currently owned by St. Joe. And, it is already listed as a FL Forever project. There would also be multiple opportunities for spur trails to other conservation lands and linkage to other corridors already captured on the Opportunity Map. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Eric Tullberg, Miami-Dade Urbanized Area MPO |   General Comments |   07-14-2008 |   River of Grass Greenway (adjacent to US-41 from Hwy 92 to Krome Av.) This trail is of great importance because: a. It connects Collier & Dade Co. b. The Florida Trail ends nearby. c. Shark Valley, ENP is a great 15 mile loop. d. Many nature viewing sites in Big Cypress NP & ENP. The path should follow the L-29 & L-28 levees where possible. At the proposed 1 mile long skyway a separated path at least 8 ft. wide must be built across the bridge with 42"handrails. There should be parking lots at the ends for sightseers; no stopping on the bridge should be allowed. The path should have a very smooth paved surface and be at least 8 ft. wide. Bollards 36" apart at all entrances would control ATVs & cars. |

I wanted to see where these trails were, and you just can't tell, because everything you would use as referance points are covered up when you are zoomed in. It may be helpful to have the ddisplay change to a smaller width when you are zoomed in. Other than that, this is a great map and will be very helpful. It has a lot of very useful layers. |

|   Paddling |   Leigh Brooks, Chattahoochee |   Retain |   04-16-2008 |   Most of this river is an Outstanding Florida Water. It has important historic value, particulary at Natural Bridge. Very little of this corridor or the river''s springs are protected, but as development in Leon and Wakulla County continues it will become increasingly important to do so to protect water quality for recreational enjoyment as well as in-stream resources and the estuary downstream at Apalachee Bay. |
|   Apalachicola Ravines Trail |   Multi-Use |   Leigh Brooks, Chattahoochee |   Upload |   04-18-2008 |   The Apalachicola Ravines Trail would connect Chattahoochee/Gadsden Co. and Bristol/Liberty Co. via a strenuous hiking trail along the bluffs, ravines, seepage streams, steepheads on the east side of the Apalachicola River. Lots of topographic relief, some bluffs 150 above the river. There are trails and recreation facilities in Chattahoochee on ACOE property by Jim Woodruff Dam and Lake Seminole (crossing into Georgia) and Gholson Nature Park and Chattahoochee boat landing owned by the city. The city is currently looking to expand the riverfront park to join up with the Florida Forever lands. Torreya State Park and TNC?s Apal. Bluffs and Ravines Preserve already have trails and a linked trail vision in their management plans. The Florida Trail crosses through Bristol at SR 20, so hooking up these two hiking trails would provide long-distance hikers a fantastic side trail. Across the bridge into Blountstown is the Blountstown Greenway. |
|   Apalachicola River Loop |   Multi-Use |   Leigh Brooks, Chattahoochee |   Upload |   04-18-2008 |   Develop a multi-use paved corridor (along existing roads should be okay) that circumnavigates the Apalachicola River and goes up the Chattahoochee River. This would start in Jackson County near the Alabama state line, follow CR 271 connecting ACOE parks on the Chattahoochee River and Lake Seminole in Jackson County (includes several boat landings, Apalachee WMA, Three Rivers SP, Sneads Park). At Sneads it would go east on US 90 and cross the Apalachicola River into Chattahoochee. From there is would go along the westernmost paved roads in Gadsden and Liberty counties to Torreya SP, then goes south on SR 12 by Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve, through Bristol, and continuing south through the Apalachicola NF. Connect in the forest with CR 379/Apalachee Scenic Byway, then south at Sumatra on SR 65, past the Apalachicola WEA and Tate?s Hell SF to US 98 on the coast. East on US 98 through Eastpoint, over the bridge at Apalchicola Bay and into Apalachicola, to the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve and St. Vincent NWR facilities, then to 30-A to St. Joe Bay and Port St. Joe, then north of SR 71 through Wewa. Just north of Scott?s Ferry, jog east to SR 69, then up to Blountstown. Continue up SR 69 to CR 286 back into Sneads. I have ridden the Apalach loop and most of it is an excellent ride with great scenery. The weakest point is a long, straight, hot section between St. Joe and Wewa. |

This creates a loop that crosses the FNST on CR 67 and connects with SR 65 Scenic Highway. CR 67 is a paved road through Tate's Hell with access to the New and Crooked rivers and campsites. Also, a new ORV parking/staging area with restrooms has been completed. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Mary Lou Hildreth, City of Keystone Heights |   General Comments |   04-29-2008 |   As far as trails go, I think it important to not that the R2T section soon to be completed in Keystone Heights has two additional components that make it even more attractive. The first is that FDOT is putting in a wide sidewalk from downtown KH that will go all the way to Gold Head Branch State Park. This will be an additional 8 plus miles of multi-use trail that will connect the existing 6.5 to the park which has hiking, camping, fishing, etc. Additionally, Twin Lakes park, which is our existing trail head will then be connected via this "T" path to Little Rain lake park, another new county park between 21/100 and Gold Head, providing yet more opportunities for combined recreational usage. |

More than 3500 additional new homes are slated to be built within 1 mile of this route and this area is generally considered to be the new center of population gravity for Nassau County. Timing: 2008-2012. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Rick Bebout, Clay County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Palatka-Orange Park-Keystone Loop: Connect Palatka with Orange Park via U.S. 17 and the Clay County "Black Creek Trail". In orange park, use the Drs. Lake trail to Peoria and then onto college dr. to get U.S.-17 connected to SR-21. Then connect SR-21 to the SR-100 trail in Clay county by using SR-21 as the path to the Goldhead State Park to Keystone trail, which connects at the intersection of SR-100 and SR-21 in the city of Keystone. This provides a loop from Palatka to Orange Park, to Keystone and back to Palatka. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Rick Bebout, Clay County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   GreenCove Springs to the SR-21 proposed trail via SR-16. This trail would connect the U.S.-17 trail at Greencove Springs with the SR-21 trail at the intersection with SR-16. When this network is completed there would exist a complete network of recreational and alternative transportation corridors throughout Clay County and connect Creen Cove Springs with Palatka and Palatka to Keystone Heights. A further bonus is; if the Trail Loop in the east coast corridor (I believe they are calling it the river to the sea loop) is completed, this will make Palatka a Trail Hub for approximately 450 miles of continuous, connected trails. |

|   Ekanachatte Trail |   Multi-Use |   Robert R. Hurst, Historical Society of Bay County |   Upload |   05-09-2008 |   Multi-use trail. Some of its footprint are already on state and federal lands. Some segments are on secondary roads, especially in the northeast portion of Jackson County. Much of the trail in Walton and Bay Counties is on St. Joe Company and Knight properties. In those counties the trail is sometimes on primitive roads. The Intracoastal Water Way intersects it in two places, that would pose a problem. In Washington and Jackson counties, there are multiple property owners. The trail does run though the Marianna State Caverns Park and the Corps of Engineers Neals Landing where the Seminole village of Ekanachattee is located. I know that this trail exists. It is documented on a 1778 map and a journal. I have written a 17 page research paper (unpublished) on this and a few spur trails. You might want to later look at these other trails, as one of them leaves Pine Log Forest and goes up thru Ebro and beyond. It is much more difficult to prove however. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Robin Turner, Office of Greenways and Trails |   General Comments |   07-16-2008 |   Per conversation with Chuck Hatcher, Director of Jackson County Parks & Recycling, please extend a multi-use trail corridor along the northern portion of the Chipola River to the Alabama State line. He is requesting Chipola Greenway Oppurnity Map incude the land north of the current greenway that we have now. This would run up to the Alabama stateline. This would include Marshall Creek and Cowarts Creek which form the Chipola in northern Jackson County, and to include the Northwest Florida Water Mgt Land. This has been request from local citizens that want this to be done. We have also been asked by the Friends of Florida Caverns to include the river above the Caverns, which is what we have requested. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-01-2008 |   Great NW Coastal Trail - This trail opportunity connects to the Ocklockonee Bay Trail in Wakulla County east of Ochlockonee Bay and presents two connections from Sopchoppy in the north and from Panacea in the east. Current planned segments of the Ochlockonee Bay Trail will connect seamlessly to this project. Inter-governmental collaboartion is possible to enhance both projects. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-01-2008 |   Ochlockonee Bay Trail - the planned segment through Panacea will also include the existing paved walking trail at Woolley Park. Florida Communities Trust has awarded Wakulla County the Big Bend Maritime Center project (adjacent to Woolley Park - worth $3.9 million) which includes natural walking trails along the waterfront. This project is contingent upon acceptance by the County and successful negotiations for the property by FCT. The Center will have regional impact for visitors to this area seeking to access various recreational and cultural opportunities. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-01-2008 |   Big Bend Canoe Trail - Please retain this paddling trail opportunity. Wakulla County is tasked under two Florida Communities trust and one TIIF Division of State lands management agreement to develop paddling opportunities, including non-motorized launching facilities at Purify Creek, the Wakulla Welcome Center, and Mash Island Park. This designation will further efforts by the County to develop these trailside facilities and destination points. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-01-2008 |   St. Marks River Trail - Please retain this as a state designated paddling trail. The St. Marks River converges with the Wakulla River near the Gulf offering a connected network of paddling opportunities including trailside facilities such as Newport Park, St, Marks River Park, Wakulla River Park, and San Marcos Fort de Apalache State Park. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Alligator Point Trail - This trail provides connectivity with the Ochlockonee Bay Trail in Wakulla County on the east side of Ochlockonee Bay. Inter-governmental collaboration is possible to enhance both projects. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Ochlockonee Bay Trail - Currently this trail is planned for the 11 mile stretch of County Road 372 from Mash Island Park to the intersection of US 319 near Sopchoppy. Future expansion opportunities may include connections westward along the GF&A trail corridor on Curtis Mill Road in Sopchoppy to Franklin County's Great NW Coastal Trail. Additional opportunties exist east along US 319, then north along Lawhon Mill Road to Harvey Mill Road to Boltic Pelt, across Wakulla Arran to Government Road (Forest Road 313) north to connect to the GF&A in Leon County. The Ochlockonee Bay Trail poses the viable link through Wakulla County through future extensions. Wakulla County will be seeking state designation of this trail in the near future. These connections could make this trail system one of the longest in the state. City and County park facilities as well as approved Forestry trails offer numerous destination points and recreational opportunities. The dedication by the County of a 163 acre parcel on Lawhon Mill Road as a regional park will provide campsites, parking and facilities for users of the Florida Scenic Trail located less than a 1/4 mile south of the park location. Finally, an extension is planned along US 98 from County Road 372 eatsward through Panacea to connect to the Wakulla Welcome Center, a Florida Communities Trust project. This segment may consist of a combination of paved trail, boardwalk, paved bike lane and/or sidewalk in order to make the connections. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Tallahasse to St. Marks/Sopchoppy to Perry - Wakulla County previously entertained the idea of a trail connection from the St. Marks Trail along Hwy 267 and US 98 to Newport Park. A loop is possible by turning south down Newport Road and back toward St. Marks. It appears the current lines for both of these trails would support any future efforts to pursue these connections. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Please retain designated paddling trail status for the Lower Ocklockonee River. These opportunities connect with the Ocjlockonee Bay Trail and Mash Island Park. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Wakulla River - Please retain this as a designated paddling trail opportunity. Protected Florida manatees make this river their home from April - September. Wakulla Springs feeds this river and provides an abundance of wildlife and birdwatching, incuding kite, bald eagle, aligator, manatee and scores of turtle and bird species. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-02-2008 |   Florida State Circumnavigational Trail - please retain designation for this paddling opportunity. It will assist Wakulla County in fulfilling its park management obligations under Florida Communities Trust and DEP Division of State Lands. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Sheryl Mosley, Wakulla County |   General Comments |   05-12-2008 |   Lost Creek disappears underground for about 2 miles. It is a pristine recreational opportunity that presents paddling opportunities. However, it cannot connect to other water bodies or destination points. Fishing and picnicking are local pastimes along this corridor. During dry seasons, paddlers will not be able to access the creek. While groundwater protection is always important, recreational opportunities along this corrdior may be limited due to private ownership. |

|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Susan Kennedy, Northeast Everglades Trails Association |   General Comments |   07-10-2008 |   Beeline Highway Cooridor - Palm Beach, Martin and Okeechobee Counties. This is a REAL opportunity right now - DOT is in early design stage for widening the road. They will have to do a lot of mitigation. Again - hard and soft trails for hiking, bike and equestrian. It connects to Corbett WMA, PB County lands and up to the Lake. Would also be important non-motor transport corridor. Big challeng with the bridge over the C-44 canal. Connects to many east-west corridors. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Susan Kennedy, Northeast Everglades Trails Association |   General Comments |   07-10-2008 |   New trail - the "Sugar Trail" along the route of SR 80 starting from the split from the canal corridor at ARM Refuge - stay along the road and connect to Belle Glade, South Bay, Clewiston and into La Belle. Should have both multi-use hard path for bike and soft horse/hiking path. Make use of the new land acquisition opportunity and get the trails as part of the SFWMD restoration project. Will help assist the small communities and tie non-motorized transportation to these rural areas. Can connect to LOST and related trails also. Would be another great "cross-florida" opportunity through the historical sugar lands. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Susan Kennedy, Northeast Everglades Trails Association |   General Comments |   07-10-2008 |   Pratt Whitney trail corridor - in PB & Martin County, connects Southern Blvd north to the Martin East West Corridor. Goes through rural communities and some suburban and is adjacent to many natural areas. Should be both hard and soft surface as the corridor allows - it ties many equestrian neighborhoods to larger riding areas and the OTL corridor. Would also be alternative non-motor transportation. |
|   N/A |   Paddling |   Susan Kennedy, Northeast Everglades Trails Association |   General Comments |   07-10-2008 |   Fisheating Creek in Highlands and Glades counties should be a corridor - goes to the Lake. |
|   N/A |   Multi-Use |   Tabitha Biehl-Gabbard, Polk County |   General Comments |   07-07-2008 |   We would recommend a trail corridor to be added around Lake Hancock that connects the ?Peace River Greenway ? Polk County Corridor? to the ?Bartow Winter Haven Trail Corridor?. This connection provides excellent opportunity for a multi-use trail around Lake Hancock that would tie into the Fort Fraser Trail. This would create approximately 11 miles of additional trail through existing conservation lands. The trail would travel through Circle B Bar Reserve which is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and is home to Polk?s Nature Discovery Center which will provide opportunity to share with the public information on recreation trails available throughout the state. Polk?s Nature Discovery Center can serve as the hub/ trail head for central Florida trails.

|   Hwy 90 - Red Brick Road Trail |   Multi-Use |   Vernon Compton, Blackwater Heritage Trail CSO |   Retain |   05-02-2008 |   Florida State Road 1 is the orginal brick road that ran from Milton eastward, built in 1921. Approximately 7 miles of this historic road still remains and Santa Rosa County is taking the lead on restoration of this road as a multiple use trail. The road is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Completion of the first phase of this project will connect historic downtown Milton to several City and County parks. It will also connect to an area near the southern boundary of Blackwater River State Forest. Extending this multiple use trail and connecting to and through the forest several miles will provide a connection to Blackwater River State Forest. This is a high priority in providing multiple use access to the largest state forest in Florida. |

An important addition to the Whiting Bike Trail is the proposed trail around the base which would connect to the Blackwater Heritage Trail. The State of Florida, Santa Rosa County, Navy, and The Nature Conservancy have been working together on a Florida Forever project which would protect lands around the base and along Clear Creek and Coldwater Creek. |

This is an extremely important connection from the Blackwater Heritage State Trail and a large expanse of roads and trails in Blackwater River State Forest. Many bicyclists in particular use this corridor for a connection to the rural road system of the state forest. Currently this connection from the last crossing of the Blackwater Heritage State Trail over Highway 191 to Blackwater River State Forest along Highway 191 is dangerous with no bike lanes available. |
