What is an Existing Recreational Trail?
An existing recreational trail is a trail (paved or unpaved) for hiking, biking,
equestrian, multi-use, or paddling use that is open to the public. This does not
include in-road bike lanes or sidewalks. We are now collecting information on
motorized trails as well.
Before You Upload:
Uploading data requires a user log-in name and password, which can be obtained through OGT or
GeoPlan staff (see "Request Log-in" below or "Login" link to the left).
Instructions for Uploading:
- Include Minimum Required Attributes
Before uploading the shapefile, please make sure that the DBF which corresponds to your shapefile
contains the minimum required attributes.
Each trail submitted must at least include the following information:
    - Trail Name
    - Trail Use (Hiking, Biking, Equestrian, Paddling, Multi-use, etc)
There are additional fields that were previously required for each trails upload,
and we encourage data submitters to complete as much of that information as possible. However, the entire list of
attributes are no longer required.
- Include Projection Information
Please include projection information for the shapefile that is being uploaded.
Projection information can be submitted in a textfile, document, .prj file (Projection file with the shapefile),
or in the "Comments" field of the upload form.
- Complete Upload Form, Compress and Upload the Shapefile
Please be sure to include the .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj files for all shapefiles submitted.
Additional files such as .sbx, .sbn, .aih, and .ain may be included, but are not necessary.
You will need to ZIP OR COMPRESS all files together into
ONE SINGLE ZIP FILE and then upload the zip file.
